Best Moments of 2015

When I look back at 2015 I see how much I’ve grown as an artist and cyclist. I pushed myself harder physically and mentally than I ever have before. I met great people, who shared the same passion for track bikes as I do. Together we explored our city, challenged each other, helped each other grow, and packed in more miles than any of us ever thought we were capable of. But most importantly, we shared memories we will never forget.

Heading into 2016, there will be some changes to the blog. I never really settled on a direction, or figured out a voice for the current format. I knew I didn’t want to be “just another fixed gear blog,” and I feel it’s become that. I started a project over the summer that had me really excited and pushed my boundaries as a growing artist and cyclist. I shared a touch of it here, but never let it truly grow. Over the last few months I have revisited the project and have let it take hold of me again. I have begun to identify a voice and direction. That is what CyclopsFixed will become. Be patient as changes will slow. It will still have a touch of cycling (after all, the project wouldn’t have existed without a cycling influence), but will feature more original content and a better creative direction.

With that said. Everyone have a fun and happy NYE. Be safe. Ride safe. Don’t Drink and Drive (or ride). And I’ll see you in 2016.

2015 BikeMS | Kansas Is NOT FLAT!

Over the weekend my friend Marc and I participated in BikeMS. A 75 to 166 mile, two day ride, from Kansas City, MO to Lawrence, KS, all in the name of charity. We heard that there were expected to be around 2,000 riders. It looked more like 500-750. Being on track bikes and surrounded by hundreds of Specialized Allezes, it made for an adventure. We both were asked quiet a few questions and received odd stares (mostly when we did whip skids). We had a blast racing roadies, some beat us, some tried to beat us, and a few caught us at rest stops and told us they had fun catching our drafts just to keep up. It was a blast and we will surely be back next year. now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to ice my knees.

Late Night Rides, Tots, and Dogs

Late night rides with friends are the best. Especially during the summer, when the days are long and hot. We have some exciting new things coming up in the next few months. Keep checking back for updates and and other awesome stuff.

I Need More Rides Like This

I’ve been eyeing an Affinity Lo Pro since Champagne Money Green. I got this one built up over the weekend and took her out for what turned into the best ride I’ve ever had. I started my Sunday ride as usual, taking the same route, to get to the same places. Bored with the same routine, I started exploring more. I made my way into the West Bottoms, an area I am fairly familiar with, having had been to a few bars, and gallery showings down there. The sun was setting, my lights were dying, and I knew I needed to head towards home. But, I kept pushing. And pushing.

Then I found my self in an unfamiliar area. I headed back the way I came, or so I thought. I ended up at some distribution center, dodging pot holes and semis. After making my way out, I finally admitted to myself I was lost. I summoned the Google gods and asked for directions home. As someone who is proud of there sense of direction, this pissed me off. With my phone in my pocket and the faint voice of Siri telling me where to turn, and taking me down some sketchy roads, I finally headed home.

My lights died as I found my way to familiar territory. I breathed a sigh of relief, and pushed harder and faster.

Now it’s time to have a beer.
