Nestled within Kessler Park in the Northeast corner of Kansas City, Cliff Drive is nearly five miles of paved road that wind through rock and forested landscape. On top of that, the Drive is closed to traffic every weekend and only allows bicycles and pedestrians to enjoy the scenic views it holds within. It’s a great place to escape the urban bustling of Kansas City, and enjoy nature.

It’s been a goal of mine to ride Cliff Drive for a while. Over the weekend, I planned a ride that didn’t initially include the Drive, but halfway through, I had the urge to go. It’s fairly simple to get there by bike from any point in the city. Depending on what part of town you are coming from, you may need to ride or cross a few high traffic streets, but for the most part you can wind through low traffic residential streets to get there.

Upon arriving I was immediately taken away by the scenic nature of the Drive, with views of the east bottoms, the Missouri River, and downtown Kansas City. There is also a killer mountain bike trail off Cliff Drive that has even better views. But with all of the rain we’ve had lately, the trails are still fairly soggy and mushy. Also, I had my Affinity Lo Pro on me and the gearing is not quiet equipped for the trail. The Drive was pretty empty on Sunday due to Tour of Kansas City. But the trail is normally busy with cyclists and pedestrians alike enjoying the over 300 acres of Kessler Park.

Cliff Drive is absolutely amazing! I loved riding it so much that i had to do the loop twice. My first time trough, I was at the halfway point, traveling east and took the fork right. the fork right took me up a nice winding steep grade, which turned out to be quiet the challenge. I was so excited when I got to the top. Both so I could take a short brake, and celebrate the climb. After that I continued my ride down Gladstone Blvd. and looped back into the Drive. I’ve said it several times since yesterday, and I mean it when I say, I will be back to ride Cliff Drive. If you or any of your friends love to ride, explore, etc. Seriously head out to Kessler Park and check out the “Not So Hidden Gem.”
