Marc Did Not Die 22

While exploring an abandoned reservoir, we jokingly told Marc it would be awesome if he did a track stand on top of the tower. This tower is roughly 30 feet of the ground and the platform is maybe 8′ x 8′. Sounds a little scary? Well, Marc stepped back, looked up and the rest is history. Thanks for not dying Marc!

My Name is Matt and I Like Bikes

MEA couple days ago, I was thinking about Cyclops Fixed and what I am doing with it, where do I want it to go, and how I want my voice to be heard. I also thought it would be a good time to introduce myself, and talk about some of these things, so here it goes.

First off, my name is Matt and I’m from Kansas City, Missouri. I’m a graphic designer, illustrator, painter, fixed-gear rider, and the man behind Cyclops Fixed. I’ve been riding fixed-gear for a little over five years now and commuting for the last two years. I’m not a fixed gear snob! I’m a lover of all cycling and just happen to enjoy the challenges of fixed-gear riding. When ever someone asks me why I ride fixed or what is it about fixed that appeals to me I tell them, “Every ride is a different challenge. You can take the same route everyday for a year and it’s never the same. Traffic is different, the weather is different, you are different. I ride because of the challenge, and the occasional adrenaline rush you can get from it.”

I’m a pretty quiet and shy person until you get to know me, or want to talk bikes, or art. I ride by myself a lot and only have a few friends in the city that ride bikes. My friends that introduced me to fixed-gear have moved away and ride in other cities or countries. So, I guess you can say, I’m kind of a lone-wolf when it comes to cycling. I would like to see that change. Although, I enjoy the solitude of riding, I would like to ride with people from time to time, so I can push myself to be a better rider, share my passion of cycling with others, and to make more friends.

Cyclops Fixed came about through and illustration I did earlier this year. Within a month of drawing the illustration, I had the blog up and running. Since then, I’ve been trying to find MY slash Cyclops Fixed voice. The original idea was Bikes, Art, Beer. It’s become more bikes than anything, but I’m okay with that. I’m not in this game to try to make money, or to be the best blogger. I’m doing this because I love cycling, art, and beer, and want to share with you what I think is awesome. I have goals for Cyclops Fixed and would like to see it grow and become more than just another fixed-gear blog. My first goal is to meet more people as I mentioned above. With that said, if you are in Kansas City, or will be in Kansas City, get at me via the website, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. I’d like to meet you, talk about bikes, ask you why you ride, take a few photos of you and your bike, and post it on the blog. You don’t have to be a fixed-gear rider to do this.

I think, I have talked enough. Thank you to anyone who read this, and thank you to everyone for visiting the blog. I’d also like to give a shout-out to Atir Cycles and DZR shoes for the incredible opportunities you have given me in the past few months.
