I’m a huge fan of State Bicycle Co. That’s why when they launched the Off Road Division a few months back, I knew I had to get my hands on one. I took advantage of their holiday deals and ordered myself the Warhawk. It’s their entry level cyclocross bike and all around commuter.
This bike is awesome. It will make you want to hit every mud puddle, cross that field on your commute, and just get out and rip through your local trails. I commuted with it most of the week to get a feel for it and to get it dialed in. I’m the type that will tinker with my bike over several rides to get if exactly how I like it. I still need to get out on some trails and get it a little more dialed in. But I am close.
All State Bicycle’s come 90% assembled. I took my time with building it up. I really wanted to tear it down and regrease all of the components, before taking it out. And I am glad I did. I ran into a small issue with the rear brake setup. There was a lot of play in the brake lever. I ended up having to unwrap the bars, take off the lever, rerun and grease the brake cable to get a kink worked out of the cable. After reassembling and some more brake adjustments it worked just fine.
This is something that can happen to any bike you order online. If you run into these issues and don’t feel comfortable with the build yourself, take it to your local bike shop. They will be happy to help you. Always remember to be nice and bring beer with you also.
Now for some of the shots of the Warhawk. I wanted to highlight some of the components that come with this bike. I already have a small list of upgrades I want to do with this bike over time. Enjoy!!
